Join the Movement: Support Our Troops by Mowing!
The second annual You Move, We Mow Challenge is here, and it’s time to lace up your sneakers and step into action! Presented by Project EverGreen, this national fundraiser aims to support families of deployed military personnel by providing them complimentary lawn and landscape services. As we commemorate GreenCare for Troops Awareness Month, we invite everyone to log a total of 19,000 steps between June 22 and June 28.
This initiative not only highlights the importance of supporting those who serve but also promotes healthier lifestyles and greener communities. Ki Matsko, program manager for GreenCare for Troops, perfectly encapsulates the mission, stating, "Behind every uniform is a family that serves alongside them. By participating, you're showing these families that their sacrifices are seen, valued, and never forgotten."
Steps to Participate and Make an Impact
Joining the challenge is simple and accessible! Participants can register for a nominal fee of $30, with the added perk of receiving a limited-edition Project EverGreen baseball hat for the first 100 registrants. Whether you're walking, running, biking, or hiking, every single step counts towards supporting our soldiers’ families and green spaces in our neighborhoods.
Not just a health challenge, but a testament to community spirit, participants can gather their friends, family, and coworkers to increase their impact collectively. For instance, Beth Berry from Advanced Turf Solutions shares her enthusiasm, reflecting on her team’s victory last year: "We took the top spot in last year’s inaugural You Move, We Mow Challenge with Project EverGreen. Our team loved combining movement—whether walking, running, biking, or hiking—with teamwork and a great cause. We’re proud to back Project EverGreen and can’t wait to defend our title this year!"
Sarah Spatola of Arborjet | Ecologel added to this collective sentiment: "We can run, walk, bike, etc., at our free will because of the sacrifices of our military members and their families. Participating in the You Move, We Mow Challenge is a small effort to recognize and show appreciation for those sacrifices."
Why Supporting Military Families Matters
Each step taken in this challenge symbolizes a deeper resonance - it’s an expression of gratitude to the military families who sacrifice so much for the rest of us. By participating, not only do you contribute to a higher cause, but you foster a sense of unity and cooperation within your community. In a time where we face societal challenges, initiatives like this remind us of our collective capacity to support one another.
The Benefits of Green Spaces
As we participate in this challenge, it's important to understand the broader impact. Promoting green spaces ties directly into community well-being. Parks and lush lawns not only beautify neighborhoods but also enhance our mental health and physical fitness. Communities invested in nature report higher overall happiness and a stronger sense of belonging.
Get Involved and Inspire Others
Challenge yourself and those around you! Spread the word on social media, encourage local businesses to join, and lead by example. This is an opportunity to inspire others in your community to take steps towards healthier living while recognizing the sacrifices of our troops.
