Joined by Ingui Architecture, her vision unfolds in a stunning six-story brownstone that captures the essence of both Brooklyn and Swedish design trends.
A Personal Journey Into Design
Having lived in Brooklyn for over twenty years, Mankins drew upon her rich experiences and extensive travels to infuse her project with character and charm. Moving to Sweden in 2022 with her family opened new design horizons that would significantly shape her work. “Sweden has been hugely influential for me personally and continues to be a never-ending source of design inspiration,” she reflects, revealing her affection for the patterns and colors of celebrated Swedish designer Josef Frank.

As Mankins explains, “Our approach is about discerning color, pattern, and texture to enhance the environment while remaining true to historical aesthetics.” The interiors of the brownstone display a conscious effort to harmonize modern design with the building's historical integrity, creating spaces that tell a story.

Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by an entryway illuminated by a unique brass Dodo Egg Light, a perfect symbol of Mankins' commitment to marrying playfulness with sophisticated design. “I chose Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace for the stairs—it reflects light beautifully while keeping the space warm and inviting,” she shares. The strategic choices, such as black and white marble tiles reminiscent of the classic era, evoke a sense of nostalgia while enhancing the brownstone's charm.
The Colorful Canvas of Comfort
Throughout the parlor floor, Mankins masterfully blends neutral palettes with vibrant hues. “We created a neutral envelope using Color Atelier lime paint in Old White, punctuated with colorful upholstery and printed pillows,” she explains.
